Guide to using mouthwashes

A daily antibacterial mouthwash (containing, for example, chlorhexidine or Cetylpyridinium chloride) can help to protect against the growth of bacteria inside the mouth. If bacteria are allowed to develop a build up of plaque can occur, which is a major cause of gum disease and cavities. A daily mouthwash can care for the gums, help fight bad breath by reducing the bacteria which cause it and, if it contains fluoride, can also strengthen the teeth and provide daily cavity protection.
